History
Kagemori Station opened on 27 September 1917. It is a station on the Chichibu Railway Chichibu Main Line, with station number CR32. In 1918 the freight-only Bukō Line branched off from it; in 1924 the Chichibu Cement limestone mine (present-day Chichibu Taiheiyō Cement Miwa Mining Office) was opened; and in 1928 a dedicated siding for Chichibu Electric Industry was also laid. The dedicated siding was abolished in 1959 and the Bukō Line in 1984. On 8 February 2008 a freight train with brake failure overturned and derailed on a safety siding within the station, and locomotive Deki 106 was subsequently scrapped. The old station building was demolished in 2016, and the PASMO IC card became usable there from 12 March 2022.
Notes
Kagemori is the rail gateway to the still-active Minowa Line, a private out-of-station siding that leaves the station and climbs a steep grade to the Chichibu Taiheiyō Cement Minowa mining office on the hillside a little under a kilometre to the south. A loading hopper for the limestone quarried there stands at the end of the line, and the switcher D502 pushes wagons underneath it; the stone then travels over the Chichibu Main Line and the Mikajiri Line to Mikajiri Station, serving Taiheiyō Cement's Kumagaya works.
