Location

History

Kagawa Station, on the JR East Sagami Line in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, is 3.4 km from the line's terminus at Chigasaki and serves the northern part of the city. It opened on 28 September 1921 as a Sagami Railway station, when the Chigasaki–Samukawa section came into service. The line was nationalised on 1 June 1944, the station passing to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the forerunner of Japanese National Railways. The station passed to JR East at JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987, gained Suica turnstiles in November 2001, and saw its west-side plaza opened on 1 April 2015. Its staffed ticket window closed on 12 February 2016.

Notes

The astronaut Sōichi Noguchi attended Kanagawa Prefectural Chigasaki Hokuryō High School, just east of the station.
