History
Kagato Station opened on 1 September 1962 when the Japanese National Railways' Akō Line was extended between Inbe and Higashi-Okayama, and from the outset it was an unstaffed station handling passengers only. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station passed to JR West. An ICOCA-compatible IC-only reader entered service on 15 September 2018. The station carries the line code JR-N10, sits 38.5 km from the Aioi terminus and 28.0 km from Banshū-Akō, and is a passing loop-free halt served by a single side platform shared by trains in both directions; there is no station building, and the small forecourt has a barrier-free public toilet.
