History
JR Matsuyama-eki-mae Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Ōtemachi Line in Minami-Edo 1-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 05, connecting with JR Shikoku's Yosan Line at Matsuyama Station. On 3 April 1927, a connecting line between Furumachi and Matsuyama opened as a railway under the Local Railway Act, at the same time as the Railway Ministry's Matsuyama Station opened. On 1 May 1936, Kokutetsu-ekimae Station opened with the opening of the Ōtemachi Line, and the Furumachi–Matsuyama connecting line was abolished. Following the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, it was renamed Matsuyama-ekimae Station, and in 2023 its official name was changed to JR Matsuyama-eki-mae Station. An extension and relocation of the stop is planned for summer 2026.
Notes
The station was referred to in passenger information as "JR Matsuyama-ekimae" by 2007 at the latest, but its listed name in the Railway Directory (Tetsudō Yōran) remained "Matsuyama-ekimae" through the 2022 edition. It was officially changed in the 2023 edition of the Railway Directory, making it the first station name to carry the "JR" prefix on a railway other than JR West.
