History

Jimmachi Station opened on 23 August 1901 on what is now the Ōu Main Line, 106.3 km from the line's origin at Fukushima. The station originally had a side platform and an island platform; with the completion of the Yamagata Shinkansen the island platform was removed to make way for tracks used by non-stop shinkansen services, leaving Jimmachi with a single side platform on a bi-directional track. The station became part of JR East at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 and is unstaffed. Yamagata Airport and JGSDF Camp Jinmachi lie nearby.
