History

Izu-Taga Station is a station on the JR East Itō Line in Kamitaga, Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, with station number JT 23. It opened on 30 March 1935 with the Railway Ministry's opening of the Itō Line between Atami and Ajiro. It was transferred to Japanese National Railways on 1 June 1949; freight handling ended on 1 November 1958 and parcel handling on 15 March 1972. It became a JR East station at the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, and Suica was introduced on 16 October 2004, bringing it within the Tokyo metropolitan area fare zone. The Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office closed on 22 June 2007, and from 8 March 2015, coinciding with the station's unstaffing, a "station remote-control system" (now the Customer Support Call System) was introduced, under which staff at Itō Station remotely operate the fare adjustment machine.

Notes

Among the Itō Line's intermediate stations, Kinomiya and Izu-Taga (managed by Atami Station) and Ajiro and Usami (managed by Itō Station) all introduced the station remote-control system when they were unstaffed on 8 March 2015, with staff at Itō Station remotely handling gate operations.
