History

Izumo-Daitō Station is a station located in Iida, Daitō-chō, Unnan, Shimane Prefecture, that opened on 11 October 1916 as Daitōchō Station, timed with the opening of the Hikami Railway. It was incorporated into the Ministry of Railways' Kisuki Line and simultaneously renamed Izumo-Daitō when the Hikami Railway was nationalized on 1 August 1934. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1973 and parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985, and the station became unstaffed on 1 November 1986. It became a station of West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 and was staffed again at the same time, but became unstaffed once more on 10 March 1990, before being placed under a simplified staffing contract on 1 June of that year. A new station building, also housing a shop selling local specialty products of Unnan City, entered use on 28 September 2007; the station was initially managed by the "Unnan City Izumo-Daitō Station Management Association," and from 1 April 2016 by the designated manager "Tsumugi."
