History
Izumita Station opened on 15 July 1913 on the Ōu Main Line in what is now Shinjō, Yamagata Prefecture. Freight handling ended on 31 March 1964, and parcel handling on 1 October 1970, the same date the station was made unattended. It passed to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways. A replacement station building came into use on 20 March 2000. The station has a single island platform with two tracks connected to the building by a footbridge, and remnants of an older freight platform and a siding can still be seen on the site. It is managed remotely from Shinjō Station.
