History

Izumi-Chūō Station is the underground northern terminus of the Sendai Subway Namboku Line, located in Izumi-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. It opened on 15 July 1992 and is 14.8 kilometres from the opposing terminus at Tomizawa. The station carries a single island platform serving two tracks, and trains depart in the opposite direction from the same side they arrived. In December 2004 the first phase of an expansion added a second ticket gate at the north entrance, with full northern expansion and underground passageways to Izumity 21 and the Izumi ward office completed on 1 April 2005. Service was suspended from 11 March to 29 April 2011 by the Tōhoku earthquake.

Notes

In 2023 the station's sub-name was set to "Vegalta Sendai · Yursta-mae", and in May 2024 it was wrapped to commemorate the football club's 30th anniversary.
