History
Izu-Kōgen Station opened on 10 December 1961 as a station of the Izukyū Line. It is located at Yawatano, Itō City, Shizuoka Prefecture; its provisional pre-opening name was "Yawatano Station," but it was named "Izu-Kōgen" ("Izu Highlands") to reflect the intent of making it a base for developing the area as a resort and vacation-home district. Rebuilding of the station building began on 22 January 1993, and a new, unified station building together with the station commercial building "Yamamo Plaza" opened on 19 March 1994. A foot bath in front of the station, "Bisoku no Yu," opened in April 2000. It has an adjoining rolling-stock depot, the "Izu-Kōgen Rail Yard," on the seaward side, and is an at-grade station with a total of two platforms and three tracks - one island platform serving two tracks and one side platform serving one track; as a limited-express stop it has a Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office and automatic ticket machines. The station number is IZ06.
Notes
Despite bearing the name "Kōgen" ("highlands"), its actual elevation is lower than that of the neighboring Jōgasaki-Kaigan Station. It was also selected in the first edition of the "100 Chūbu Region Stations."
