History

Iyoshi Station opened as "Minami-Gunchū Station" in Gunchū Village, Iyo District, on 27 February 1930, when the Japanese National Railways' San'yo Line was extended from Matsuyama Station to this station. It was initially the terminus of the San'yo Line (later the Yosan Line), but about three years later, in December 1932, the line was extended from this station to Iyo-Unada Station, and it ceased to be a terminus. Gunchū Town, in which it stood, became Iyo City through a merger of towns and villages on 1 January 1955. Located in Kominato, Iyo, Ehime Prefecture, it is a station on the Yosan Line of Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku), with station number U05. All trains stop here except the sightseeing train "Iyonada Monogatari." The station's name-board caption reads "the station of Goshikihama, associated with the Heike."

Notes

The station's name at opening was "Minami-Gunchū Station"; it was renamed after Gunchū Town, where it stood, became Iyo City through the institution of city status in 1955.
