History
Iyo-Tachibana Station opened on 7 May 1893 as Tachibana Station. On 26 January 1896 the Morimatsu Line opened, branching from this station, making it the junction between the Yokogawara Line and the Morimatsu Line. It was renamed Iyo-Tachibana Station (with "Iyo" written in kanji) on 1 March 1927, and the "Iyo" was changed to hiragana in 1981. The Morimatsu Line was abolished on 1 December 1965, after which the station has operated solely on the Yokogawara Line. Designated, together with Kume and Umemoto stations, as a key transport hub on the Yokogawara Line, it now has one island platform serving two tracks and is staffed, with trains passing each other here during daytime hours.
Notes
The now-abolished Morimatsu Line, discontinued in 1965, once branched from this station; after its closure the former island platform's tracks 2 and 3 were renumbered as tracks 1 and 2 and have continued in use as the Yokogawara Line platform.
