History

Iwakura Station opened on 1 December 1928 as a station on the Kurama Electric Railway, simultaneously with the opening of the line between Yamabana (now Takaragaike) and Ichihara. It became a station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad Kurama Line through a corporate merger in 1942, and in November 1944 the section between Yamabana and Nikenchaya, including this station, was singled as part of wartime material requisitioning. The section between Takaragaike and this station was doubled again in April 1958, and the station became a station on the Eizan Electric Railway Kurama Line when Keifuku Electric Railroad transferred the Kurama Line to Eizan Electric Railway on 1 April 1986. The doubling of the section between this station and Nikenchaya was also completed on 28 September 1990, giving the station its present form. It carries station number E10.

Notes

Iwakura, the district that gives the station its name, is a historic area where the former residence of Iwakura Tomomi's seclusion, built during the Meiji Emperor's reign and designated an Important Cultural Property, still stands; the preserved residence is open to the public within walking distance of the station.
