History
Itoi Station traces its origins to the Koitoi signal stop opened on 1 June 1917, redesignated a signal box in April 1922. Passenger services reportedly began on 10 March 1951, and the facility was upgraded to a full general station on 1 April 1956, when it was renamed Itoi to match a 1944 change in the local place name. Parcel handling ended on 15 May 1980, leaving the station unstaffed, and JR Hokkaido took over at the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987. Simple-commission ticket sales were withdrawn on 31 March 2022, after which the Tomakomai-managed station has been fully unstaffed.
Notes
Because the station has no turnback facilities, trains starting or terminating here are worked empty to the neighboring Nishikioka Station to reverse direction after passenger service ends.
