History

Isonoura Station opened on 16 June 1912 with the Kada Light Railway in what is now Wakayama, Wakayama Prefecture, and was relocated 0.1 mile toward Kada on 14 July 1913. Successive corporate changes brought it under new operators: a change of company name made it a Kada Electric Railway station on 22 December 1930, mergers made it a Nankai Railway station on 1 February 1942 and a Kinki Nippon Railway station on 1 June 1944 under wartime corporate consolidation, and on 1 June 1947 the Kada Line was transferred to the present Nankai Electric Railway. Station numbering was introduced on 1 April 2012, with Isonoura assigned the designation NK44-6.

Notes

Isonoura Beach, just south of the station, is known as one of the Kansai region's premier surfing destinations, and Nankai at one time restricted the carrying of surfboards aboard its trains — an unlikely turn for a stop opened in 1912 on the Kada Light Railway.
