History

Isohara Station opened on 25 February 1897 as a Nippon Railway stop, was nationalised on 1 November 1906, and was placed on the Jōban Line by the 1909 line-naming reform. Freight handling ceased in July 1974 and parcel handling in February 1984. The station passed to JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987. A new elevated station building was completed in October 1997 and entered service on 1 November 1997. Suica IC-card service began on 14 March 2009 as the Tokyo suburban fare area expanded northward. The station serves as the main rail gateway for the city of Kitaibaraki and for nearby attractions such as Isohara Onsen and the Noguchi Ujō Memorial Hall.

Notes

The departure melody adopted on 24 May 2002 is "Nanatsu no Ko".
