History

Isobe Station opened on 15 October 1885. Parcel handling ended on 15 March 1972 and freight handling on 1 October 1973. The 1 April 1987 breakup and privatisation of Japanese National Railways made it a JR East station. It was taken into the Tokyo metropolitan area zone on 14 March 2009, when Suica became usable, and its Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 30 November 2022. The station lies at Isobe in Annaka, Gunma Prefecture, 17.6 kilometres from the starting point of the Shin'etsu Main Line; two opposed side platforms serve two tracks at ground level, joined by a footbridge, and the station building is wooden. An average of 972 passengers boarded each day in fiscal 2024.

Notes

The plaza outside the station's north entrance holds a monument to fear of one's wife, inscribed with words by a person named Shinnosuke Abe, together with a stone marking the place as the birthplace of Japan's oldest hot-spring symbol (日本最古の温泉記号発祥の地).
