History
Ishikoshi Station opened on 16 April 1890 as a station of the Nippon Railway, on what is now the Tōhoku Main Line in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture. From 20 December 1921 it also served the Kurihara Tramway, later the Kurihara Den'en Railway, until that line closed on 1 April 2007. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985 and freight handling on 21 October 1986. The station transferred to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. Staffing was contracted out from 1 April 2009, and a new station building entered service on 31 July 2011. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 15 March 2024 and the station became fully unattended the next day.
Notes
Ishikoshi marks the northern limit of JR East's Tōhoku Branch jurisdiction on the Tōhoku Main Line; the boundary with the Morioka Branch is set near the Shimoharada level crossing, the first crossing on the Morioka side of the prefectural border between Ishikoshi and Yushima, 425.0 kilometres from Tokyo.
