History

Ise-Okitsu Station opened on 5 December 1935 as a Japanese Government Railways stop on what is now the Meishō Line, in present-day Tsu, Mie Prefecture. Freight service was discontinued in October 1965 and station staffing was withdrawn on 1 April 1986. The station passed to JR Central with the division and privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, and its building was rebuilt in 2005. Between 8 October 2009 and 26 March 2016 the section between the station and Ieki Station was closed after damage from Typhoon Melor, with replacement buses substituting for trains.

Notes

After damage from Typhoon Melor, the Meishō Line section between Ieki and Ise-Okitsu was served only by substitute buses for more than six years, from 8 October 2009 until rail service finally returned on 26 March 2016.
