History
Isawa-onsen Station opened on 11 June 1903 as Isawa Station, one of four stations inaugurated together with the Chuo Line's Hatsukano to Kofu section. Local lobbying had secured a stop at Okabe village, the point on the already-planned route closest to Isawa, across the Fuefuki River from the post town of Isawa-juku. The wooden two-storey 1936 station building remained in use until 2014. Parcel handling was discontinued on 14 March 1985, and JR East and JR Freight inherited the station at the 1987 privatisation; scheduled freight workings ceased in July 1999. The name changed to Isawa-onsen on 1 April 1993 to reflect the surrounding hot-spring district. A new overpass station building opened in 2015-2016, and the Midori-no-Madoguchi closed on 30 November 2022.
Notes
Since 10 February 2016 the departure melody at Isawa-onsen has been "Takeda-bushi".
