History

Iryo Center Station opened as "Sentan Iryo Center-mae Station" (Advanced Medical Center) on 2 February 2006 as part of an extension project on the Kobe New Transit Port Island Line (Port Liner). Its provisional name during construction was Port Island Phase 2 North Station. It was renamed "Iryo Center Station" on 1 July 2011, and at the same time, being the nearest station to the Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital, it was given the secondary name "Shimin Byoin-mae" (in front of the citizens' hospital). It is an elevated station with an island platform serving two tracks; because it has neither turnouts nor absolute signals, it is classified as a stop rather than a full station. The Advanced Medical Center stands west of the station, and the west side of the structure is built as a lattice to block sightlines.
