History
Inada Station was completed as a freight station on 5 June 1897, and Nippon Railway operations began on 8 June; it was built to ship Inada granite, on land provided by stone merchant Nabeshima Hikoshichiro with local residents' cooperation. Passenger service began on 8 May 1898, though stone remained the main traffic for decades. The line was nationalized in 1906 and passed to JR East when Japan's railways were privatized on 1 April 1987; freight handling ended in 1984. The current wooden building, replacing one completed in December 1898, began construction in October 2012 and opened on 6 March 2013. The now-unstaffed station serves JR East's Mito Line between Fukuhara and Kasama, with two side platforms linked by a footbridge.
Notes
The station began not as a passenger stop but as a freight yard built to ship Inada granite, complete with the dedicated Inada hand-cart tramway for moving quarried stone to the loading yard.
