History

Imabetsu Station opened on 21 October 1958 as a stop on the Japanese National Railways Tsugaru Line in the town of Imabetsu, Aomori Prefecture. The station was contracted out in 1970, parcel handling ended in 1983, and JR East took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987; it has been fully unstaffed since 1 July 2003. A 2017 renovation expanded the waiting room and added a flush toilet. Services have been suspended since heavy rain damaged the track north of Kanita on 3 August 2022, with substitute buses since 22 August 2022, and on 10 June 2025 the operator and local authorities agreed to abolish the station on 1 April 2027.
