History

Ikenotani Station was established on 1 July 1916, simultaneously with the opening of the Awa Electric Tramway (later Awa Railway) between Furukawa and Muya. In February 1923 a branch toward Kajiyabara opened, making the station a junction. It became a station on the Ministry of Railways' Awa Line upon the Awa Railway's nationalization in July 1933, and was relocated to Takahata, Horie village, Itano District in March 1935, being incorporated into the Kōtoku Main Line. It passed to Shikoku Railway Company at the 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways, and became unstaffed in July 2012. It is a ground-level, V-shaped station located at Yanaginomoto, Ikenotani, Ōasa-chō, Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture, where the Kōtoku Line and Naruto Line diverge; its station numbers are T04 on the Kōtoku Line and N04 on the Naruto Line.

Notes

On 19 February 1923, a passenger car bound from Muya to Kajiyabara and carrying a full load of worshippers for Ōasahiko Shrine derailed and overturned within the station yard, killing five people and seriously injuring nine.
