Location

History

Iida Station is the main station of Iida, Nagano Prefecture, on the JR Central Iida Line, 129.3 km from the line's starting point at Toyohashi. It opened on 3 August 1923 as the terminus of the Ina Electric Railway extension from Motozenkōji, and became a through station when the line reached Ina-Yawata in December 1926. Nationalisation on 1 August 1943 placed it on the Ministry of Railways' Iida Line. The second station building dates from November 1960 and the current third building, with its round red roof and apple motifs, was completed on 7 February 1992. JR Central inherited the station at privatisation on 1 April 1987.

Notes

The 1992 station building's round red roof and apple motifs are said to evoke the apples and Mount Kazakoshi of Shinshū, though another account holds that the apple stands instead for the city's recovery from the Iida great fire.
