History
Ibi Station opened on 27 April 1919 when the original Yōrō Railway extended its line from Ikeno to Ibi. Through a succession of transfers and mergers it passed in turn to Ibigawa Denki (1922), Yōrō Electric Railway (1928), Ise Electric Railway (1929), Yōrō Dentetsu (1936), Sangū Express Railway (1940), Kansai Express Railway (1941) and Kintetsu (1944, via the merger with Nankai). From 1 October 2007 it has been operated by the present Yōrō Railway, following Kintetsu’s spin-off of the Yōrō Line. Today the terminal station of the Yōrō Line, located in Ibigawa, Ibi District, Gifu Prefecture, retains a staffed single side platform 57.5 rail kilometres from the opposing terminus at Kuwana.
Notes
Meitetsu’s Ibi Line once ran from Chūsetsu Station in Gifu to a separate terminal, Hon-Ibi Station, near the centre of Ibigawa; the Hon-Ibi–Kurono section closed on 1 October 2001 and the rest of the line on 1 April 2005, leaving the present Ibi Station as the town’s rail gateway.
