History

Hōzanji Station was established on 29 August 1918 with the opening of the Ikoma Cable Railway's line between Torii-mae and Hōzanji. It became a station of the Osaka Electric Tramway through merger on 25 January 1922, and the line between Torii-mae and Hōzanji was doubled when the No. 2 Hōzanji line opened on 30 December 1926. On 27 March 1929 the Sanjō Line opened through to Ikomasanjō, and the present cable network largely took shape. Both the Sanjō Line and the No. 2 Hōzanji line were suspended in 1944, near the end of the Second World War, but the Sanjō Line resumed after the war on 1 August 1945, and the No. 2 Hōzanji line also resumed and was redoubled on 1 April 1953. Its station number is Y18, and it remains the only station on the Kintetsu network where a stopover is permitted on an ordinary ticket.

Notes

Hōzanji is the only Kintetsu station where holders of an ordinary single ticket are still permitted to break their journey mid-route.
