History
Horita Station is a Meitetsu (Nagoya Railroad) station in Mizuho-ku, Nagoya, on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line (station NH32), 61.1 kilometers from Toyohashi. It opened on 15 April 1928 as an Aichi Electric Railway limited-express stop linking to the Nagoya city tram network. On 1 August 1935 the Aichi Electric Railway merged into the Meigi Railway to form today's Nagoya Railroad (Meitetsu). In August 1965 it gained Japan's first banknote-accepting ticket machine, and the tracks were elevated in stages during 1968 and 1969. The elevated station has two side platforms on four tracks: stopping trains use the outer platforms as passing loops while non-stop trains run the two center tracks. Staffing has been limited to set hours since December 2025.
Notes
The neighborhood name Horita is said to come from the area's low-lying rice paddies, which resembled a moat (hori) whenever it rained.
