History

Honmachi 6-chōme Station is an Iyo Railway tram stop in Honmachi 6-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, connecting the Jōhoku Line and the Honmachi Line. It is used by lines 1, 2, and 6 of the city tram (Matsuyama city lines). It is assigned station number 09 on the Jōhoku Line and stop number 29 on the Honmachi Line. It opened on 1 February 1962 as 'Honmachi 7-chōme Station,' a transfer station between the two lines, when the Honmachi Line was extended to south of the Honmachi level crossing on the Jōhoku Line. It was renamed Honmachi 6-chōme Station on 1 January 1967 with the implementation of the residential address system. On 11 April 2020, owing to the effects of COVID-19, the Honmachi Line suspended all services on weekends and holidays for the time being, and that suspension of all weekend and holiday services was formally adopted in the timetable revision of 23 July of the same year.

Notes

The Honmachi Line platform is a dead-end, single-track tram stop set on street-running track along Honmachi-dōri, with the track ending just short of where it would cross the Jōhoku Line. The Jōhoku Line platforms sit on a dedicated right-of-way across the level crossing on National Route 196 (Honmachi-dōri), arranged as one track with two platforms (the east side serving the Kamiichiman direction, the west side the Furumachi direction).
