History
Honmachi 5-chōme Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Honmachi Line in Honmachi 5-chōme, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 28. It is used by city tram (Matsuyama City Line) route 6. It opened on 1 February 1962 with the opening of the Honmachi Line section between Honmachi 3-chōme (now Honmachi 4-chōme) and Honmachi 7-chōme Station (now Honmachi 6-chōme Station). In 1996, a safety zone for alighting passengers was installed (until then, only a boarding safety zone had been provided, owing to light road traffic). From 11 April 2020, all services were suspended on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays for the time being because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this suspension was formalized in the timetable revision of 23 July of the same year.
Notes
When the station opened in 1962, only a boarding safety zone was provided, because traffic was light on the street-running section of the Honmachi Line along Honmachi-dōri. The alighting safety zone was not added until 1996, 34 years after opening; safety zones are now provided for both directions.
