History
Honmachi 4-chōme Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Honmachi Line in Honmachi, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 27, used by route 6. It opened on 1 September 1911 as the terminus of the Matsuyama Electric Tramway under the name Honmachi Station, and on the 19th of the same month the Matsuyama Electric Tramway extended the line from this station to Fudanotsuji (now Honmachi 3-chōme). Following a corporate merger on 1 April 1921, it became a stop on the Iyotetsu Jōnan Line. On 19 August 1946, it was suspended along with the section of the former Matsuyama Electric Tramway line running Nishi-Horibata–Honmachi–Kayamachi–Komachi. It reopened on 1 July 1948 as the Honmachi Line terminus, Honmachi 3-chōme Station. On 1 February 1962, the Honmachi Line was extended from this station to Honmachi 7-chōme (now Honmachi 6-chōme), and a passing track was installed at the same time. In January 1967 it was renamed Honmachi 4-chōme Station with the implementation of the residential address notation system, and around 1970 the passing track was removed when the Honmachi Line moved to a 20-minute operating interval (traces of it can still be seen today). From 11 April 2020, all services were suspended on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a change formalized in the timetable revision of 23 July of the same year.
Notes
When the Honmachi Line's operating interval was reduced to 20 minutes around 1970, the passing track installed in 1962 was removed, though traces remain in the track bed and land today. The two platforms are staggered, positioned on opposite sides of an intersection.
