History
Honmachi 1-chōme Station is a stop on the Iyotetsu Honmachi Line in Horinouchi, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, with stop number 25. It is used by city tram (Matsuyama City Line) route 6. Honmachi 1-chōme Station was originally part of the adjacent Nishi-Horibata Station, but because its platforms were some distance away, the Honmachi Line platform was renamed and separated out as Honmachi 1-chōme Station on 1 March 2018. The original Nishi-Horibata Station opened on 1 September 1911 as a stop of the Matsuyama Electric Tramway, became a stop on the Iyotetsu Jōnan Line following the corporate merger of 1 April 1921, saw the Ōtemachi Line open on 1 May 1936, had the Jōnan Line suspended on 19 August 1946, and reopened as the Honmachi Line on 1 July 1948. From 11 April 2020, all services were suspended on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a change formalized in the timetable revision of 23 July of the same year.
Notes
The platform toward Minami-Horibata at Honmachi 1-chōme Station lies close to Nishi-Horibata Station, but the platform toward Honmachi 6-chōme is set well apart, near Honmachi 3-chōme, so Minami-Horibata Station is designated as the transfer point for passengers heading from Dōgo-Onsen toward Honmachi. This stems from the unusual layout created when the stop was split off on 1 March 2018.
