History
Hongo Station opened on 28 June 1926 under the Nagano Denki Tetsudō company and became a Nagano Dentetsu (Nagano Electric Railway) station that September; it lies on the Nagano Dentetsu Nagano Line in the Miwa district of northeastern Nagano City. A rebuild from October 1968 to March 1969 produced a building about 31 times larger, with a small shop called the Hongo Station Department that had closed entirely by 2019. Barrier-free work from 2019 to 2021 moved the entrance to ground level, leaving the station at grade, and it became unstaffed from 1 July 2021. It now has two opposed side platforms and serves the University of Nagano, the Nagano School for the Deaf, and several high schools.
Notes
Miwa Shrine, one of the seven shrines traditionally associated with Zenkō-ji temple, stands directly in front of Hongo Station.
