History
Hiwasa Station opened on 14 December 1939 as the terminus of the Mugi Line, which Japanese Government Railways had extended southwards. It became a through-station on 1 July 1942 when the line was extended further south. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 control passed to JR Shikoku. Since the discontinuation of the Muroto limited express in March 2025 only local trains call. The station has a side platform and an island platform serving two tracks, with a passing loop beyond the island platform, and a level crossing and a footbridge link the platforms to a second entrance on the west side, where the Hiwasa roadside station (michi no eki) stands.
