History

Hiwa Station was newly built as a passenger-only, unstaffed station between Gōkei and Minage stations on the Japanese National Railways Hakubi Line on 15 May 1956. It was relocated to its present site on 7 September 1970, in conjunction with the doubling of the track between Gōkei and Minage. It passed to West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987; a simplified ICOCA-compatible automatic ticket gate was installed in July 2007, and IC transit cards became usable from 1 September. It is an elevated station on an embankment with two opposed platforms serving two tracks, and, as a halt with no points or absolute signals, it is managed by Kurashiki Station.
