History
Hitachi-Tsuda Station opened as a national railway station on 1 September 1935. The name is prefixed with "Hitachi" to distinguish it from Tsuda Station on the Katamachi Line. Transport operations were suspended as of 10 November 1944, but service resumed on 1 February 1953, and the station became an unstaffed station handling only diesel-railcar passengers. It became a JR East station with the 1987 division and privatization of the national railway on 1 April, and a simplified automatic ticket machine was installed on 8 May 2001. It was closed by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 11 March 2011, but resumed operation on 11 April of that year.
Notes
Although the station is in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, the tripoint boundary of Hitachinaka, Mito, and Naka cities lies just beside the station entrance.
