History
Hitachi-Daigo Station is a station on the JR East Suigun Line in Ōaza Daigo, Daigo, Kuji District, Ibaraki Prefecture, and is the northernmost station on the Suigun Line within both the Greater Tokyo Area network and the Suica Tokyo-area service zone. It opened as a Railway Ministry station on 10 March 1927, and the section from this station to Iwaki-Hanawa opened on 16 April 1930. Freight handling ended on 1 July 1981 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. It became a JR East station with the 1987 division and privatization of the national railway on 1 April. The Suica IC card came into use on 1 April 2014 (though it cannot be used toward Kōriyama), and the collapse of the sixth Kuji River bridge in Typhoon Hagibis on 13 October 2019 caused a long suspension of service, with operation resuming between this station and Fukuroda on 27 March 2021.
Notes
The station grounds house a Suigun Line rolling-stock depot (the Daigo branch of the Katsuta Rolling Stock Center), and a turntable that is now rarely used still remains at the back of the stabling sidings.
