History

Hirokawa Beach Station is a station newly established on 14 March 1993 between Kii-Yura and Yuasa stations on West Japan Railway Company's (JR West) Kisei Main Line (Kinokuni Line). It was the first railway station in Hirokawa town, and as of December 2023 was also the newest station on the Kisei Main Line. It was set up making use of the remains of the Minamihiro signal station, which had stood at this location in the single-track era. The ICOCA IC card became usable on 14 March 2020. It is a ground-level station with two opposing side platforms serving two tracks, but is classified as a halt because it has no switches or absolute signals. The two platforms are connected by an overpass built as a town road, and it is an unstaffed station managed by Kii-Tanabe Station. Adjacent to the station is the tourism and local-products center 'Fureai-kan.'

Notes

Although 'Beach' appears in the station's name, the sandy shore lies about one kilometer away; also, the official reading of Hirokawa town, where the station is located, is 'Hirogawa,' which differs from the station's reading 'Hirokawa' (at the time of the station's opening, the town's reading had been 'Hirokawa').
