History

Hirano Station opened on 14 May 1889 as a stop on the Osaka Railway's original line between Minatomachi (now JR Namba) and Kashiwara; the line passed to the Kansai Railway in 1900 and was nationalized in 1907. Freight handling ended in 1963, and the station building was rebuilt above the tracks in 1984. The 1987 breakup of Japanese National Railways made it a West Japan Railway Company station, and station numbering assigned it the code JR-Q22 in 2018. It now has one platform face on a single track and a two-track island platform, with trains toward Tennoji able to run past on a separate through track, on JR West's Yamatoji Line (Kansai Main Line) in Hirano-ku, Osaka.

Notes

The station is remembered for a derailment and overturning accident on 26 December 1973 that became an impetus for developing ATS-P.
