History

Hirakatashi Station opened on 15 April 1910 as Hirakata-Higashiguchi Station when the Keihan Main Line was inaugurated between Tenmabashi and Gojō. The Keihan Katano Line (originally the Shigi-Ikoma Electric Railway Hirakata Line) connected in 1929. The station became part of Keihanshin Express Railway (today's Hankyu) in the 1943 wartime mergers, was renamed Hirakatashi Station on 1 October 1949 in recognition of its role as Hirakata's central station and to avoid confusion with the former Hirakata Station, and passed back to the reconstituted Keihan Electric Railway on 1 December that year. The current elevated three-island-platform structure was completed in 1993 after a 15-year continuous grade-separation project, and the station gained all-day limited-express stops in 2003.

Notes

The registered head office of both Keihan Holdings and Keihan Electric Railway is the company's Hirakata business office, in Okahigashi-chō beside the station.
