History

Hiragishi Station (Sapporo Municipal Subway) opened on 16 December 1971 with the inauguration of the Nanboku Line between Kita-Nijūyo-Jō and Makomanai. Elevators connecting the northbound (Asabu direction) ticket gate to street level entered service in March 2002, and those for the southbound (Makomanai direction) on 1 March 2005. The station number N12 was assigned on 26 January 2006, and platform-edge sliding doors began operating on 27 December 2012. Two opposed side platforms run east–west — an unusual orientation on the Nanboku Line.

Notes

The place name 'Hiragishi' derives from the Ainu phrase 'pira-keshi-i', meaning 'where the cliff ends'. The area around the station was once entirely apple orchards, and the station stamp depicts the apple-tree row of Kanjō-dōri inside the station's initial letter H.
