History
Hinuma Station was established simultaneously with the opening of Kashima Rinkai Railway's Ōarai Kashima Line on 14 March 1985. It is located at Shimo-Ōta, Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture, in the northern part of Hokota City near its boundary with Ōarai Town. As its name suggests, the station serves as the gateway to Lake Hinuma, a waterfowl habitat registered under the Ramsar Convention, and a tourist center is attached to the station building. It is an elevated station with a single platform serving one track, and as a simplified-consignment station, tickets are sold at this tourist center. It is also the nearest station to Ikoi-no-Mura Hinuma and the Amikake district of Ibaraki Town.
Notes
As its name suggests, the station is the nearest one to Lake Hinuma, a site registered under the Ramsar Convention, and the Hinuma Tourist Center attached to the station building also handles ticket sales.
