History

Hinaga Station opened on 14 August 1912 as the starting point of the Mie Tramway's line between Hinaga and Hachiōji-mura (later Ise-Hachiōji), and became a junction on 10 January 1922 when the Mie Railway's line from Hinaga to Oguso opened. The operator changed four times: the Mie Railway in 1916, Sanco in 1944 by wartime merger, the Mie Electric Railway in 1964 by divestiture, and finally Kintetsu on 1 April 1965. The Utsube and Hachiōji lines have been operated by the Yokkaichi Asunarō Railway since 1 April 2015. The station nickname "Asunarō Chūō-Ryokuchi" was added on 23 December 2019 because the station is the closest one to Chūō Ryokuchi, a venue for the 76th National Sports Festival then planned for 2021, and ICOCA support followed on 21 August 2021.

Notes

Platform 3 lies on the outside of the sharpest curve on the Utsube and Hachiōji lines, a radius of only 100 metres, so the gap between train and platform is unusually wide; the long-bodied Mo 260 and Ku 160 cars have the corners of their body ends cut away so that they can pass through this stretch.
