History

Himejima Station opened on 12 April 1905 with the Hanshin Main Line itself, originally named Hiejima Station (稗島駅); it was renamed Himejima on 30 May 1925. It became a section-express (kukan-kyūkō) stop on 7 April 1991, and from 10 March 2001, after the section-express category was temporarily discontinued, all semi-express (junkyū) trains stopped there. The station lost all express services in the 20 March 2009 timetable change that accompanied the opening of the Hanshin Namba Line. Station number HS 05 was introduced on 1 April 2014. Today only local trains stop, apart from a few express trains that make special stops on the days of the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival.

Notes

Among Hanshin's all-stops-only stations Himejima has the second-highest ridership, behind Kasuganomichi; the 1.5 km gap to neighbouring Chibune is tied for the longest interstation distance on the Hanshin network.
