History

The present Hime Station is the second generation of that name, a station of JR Central's Taita Line located in Hime-chō, Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture. The first Hime Station opened on 28 December 1918 as a halt of the (first) Tōnō Railway, and was upgraded to a full station in March 1919. It became a station of the Ministry of Railways' Taita Line when the Tōnō Railway was nationalized on 25 September 1926. With the shift to a new alignment accompanying a gauge change on 1 October 1928, the first station was closed and the second-generation Hime Station was opened in the Ōyabu district on the new line. Passenger-handling staff and parcel handling were discontinued in 1972, and the station passed to JR Central at the privatization of Japanese National Railways in 1987. The old station building was demolished in 2005, the current building was completed in 2006, and TOICA became usable there on 13 March 2010.

Notes

Because the current (second-generation) Hime Station is located in the Ōyabu district, some sources treat it as a relocation and renaming of the neighboring Ōyabuguchi Station.
