History
Hijiyama-shita opened on 27 December 1944 with the rest of the Hijiyama Line, taking its name from Mt. Hijiyama which rises immediately to the east. Service was suspended after the 6 August 1945 atomic bombing and the Hijiyama Line resumed service on 1 July 1948. A safety zone came into use on 30 September 1974, when raised safety-island platforms replaced the original at-grade boarding areas; the platforms are long enough for 3- and 5-section articulated cars. Station number H5 was assigned in October 1996; on 3 August 2025 the Inari-machi - Hijiyama-shita section of the Hijiyama Line opened and the number was changed to H02. On 28 March 2026 the Circular Line began service and Hijiyama-shita became its terminus and a transfer stop.
Notes
Hijiyama-shita is the terminus of the Circular Line and sits at the foot of Mt. Hijiyama, close to the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, the Hiroshima City Manga Library and Tamonin Temple; the Kyōbashi-gawa flows to the west, and the Hijiyama Tunnel lies to the east.
