History

Hikiji Station is a JR Kyushu Kyūdai Main Line station at Ōaza Machida, Kokonoe-machi, Kusu District, Ōita Prefecture. It opened on 15 December 1929 as a Railway Ministry (national railway) station. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1962, and station operations were commissioned to Nippon Kōtsū Kankōsha. It became unstaffed on 10 February 1971, with parcel handling also ending on the 20th of that month. It was inherited by JR Kyushu at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987, and remains so today. It is a ground-level station with one side platform and one track, and a tile-roofed wooden station building survives. It is also the nearest station to Kokonoe Town Hall.

Notes

In fiscal 1965 annual ridership reached 71,311, and hand luggage and small parcels were also handled, but by fiscal 2015 ridership had declined to 17,379.
