History

Higashi-Ura Station was newly established on 11 November 1944 by consolidating two Taketoyo Line stations, Owari-Ikuji (opened 1933) and Fujie (opened 1934), as part of the wartime station consolidation carried out to save fuel. It initially handled only passengers, adding parcel handling in 1947 and freight handling in 1948; freight was discontinued in 1960 and parcel handling in 1984. On 25 May 1977 the Kinuura Rinkai Railway's Hekinan Line opened, and the freight line that takes this station as its starting point branches off here; at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station came under the joint jurisdiction of JR Central and the Kinuura Rinkai Railway. It became unstaffed all day on 1 October 2013, and barrier-free improvements were completed on 14 March 2014. The station number is CE04.

Notes

Although Higashi-Ura is an unstaffed station, a member of staff still comes out onto the platform to hand over the tablet token whenever a Kinuura Rinkai Railway freight train enters or leaves the Hekinan Line, the freight branch that begins here.
