History
Higashino Station was the last of the Tōzai Line stations built by the Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau to be completed, its station works being finished on 31 July 1997. It opened with the initial Daigo–Nijō section on 12 October 1997, in Yamashina Ward, Kyōto, and after the station opened the underpass at the Higashino intersection above it was built as a national government project. The station has an island platform serving two tracks, platform screen doors, and a single ticket-gate concourse. IC card travel using PiTaPa began on 1 April 2007. Within the Tōzai Line's station-colour scheme, Higashino is assigned wisteria.
Notes
Directly above Higashino Station is the Yamashina-Higashino intersection, where the Keihan Kokudō (National Route 1 Gojō Bypass) meets the Kyoto Outer Ring Road, and because the Tōkaidō Shinkansen passes underground beneath that intersection, the station also sits directly above the Shinkansen.
