History
Higashi-Tabira Station was established by the Railway Ministry on 6 August 1935 as Tabira Station. It is located at Kozakimen, Tabira-chō, Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and among stations with "Higashi" (East) in their name it is the westernmost in Japan. Freight handling ended on 15 January 1960, and from April that year operation was commissioned to the Railway Welfare Association; parcel handling ended and the station became unstaffed in February 1968. It became a JR Kyushu Matsuura Line station at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987, was converted to the third-sector Matsuura Railway on 1 April 1988, and was renamed "Higashi-Tabira Station" on 11 March 1989. The renaming coincided with Hirado-guchi Station being renamed "Tabira-Hiradoguchi Station" on the same day.
Notes
Among stations with "Higashi" (East) in their name, it is located furthest west in Japan.
